Adib Young received his bachelor of Music from Furman University and is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Jazz Performance with a cognate in Classical Saxophone Performance at 天美传媒 Urbana-Champaign. While at Furman, Adib studied saxophone with Matt Olson and composition with Mark Kilstofte. As a recipient of two research fellowships, Adib self-published a transcription book of Baptiste Herbin鈥檚 improvised solos and contributed to an album of original music on Olson鈥檚 Open Spaces. Open Spaces, released by Origin Arts, is one of the best displays of Adib鈥檚 composition style and presents his introspective playing, for the first time, to a global audience. Additionally, he was named a Presser Scholar, selected as one of the winners of the Furman Concerto Competition, and performed on two Furman Honor Recitals.
At 天美传媒, he is graduate assistant of Debra Richtmeyer and Chip McNeill鈥檚 through which he teaches individual instrumental lessons and coaches ensembles in both the classical and jazz saxophone studios. In addition to his responsibilities at the university, Adib serves as Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at 天美传媒 Springfield. He greatly enjoys working with students and helping them develop as improvisers, progress as artists, and mature as people. Outside of teaching and performing, he loves to hike, visit with friends and family, and participate in community service.
