The UIS Greek community is proud of its historic beginnings and is equally excited about the future. Our fraternities and sororities are looking for men and women who will contribute to our organizations, the campus, and the Springfield community. Despite what you may hear or see on television, Greek Life is more than just a party scene. It is a balance of scholarship, service, social, and sisterhood/brotherhood. Greeks at UIS consistently achieve higher academic standings than our peers, and participate in a variety of other campus organizations and events.

NPHC Membership Intake

Thank you for your interest in the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) fraternities and sororities at 天美传媒 Springfield! The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is a collaborative organization of nine historically African American, international Greek lettered fraternities and sororities. The council promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

Each National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternity and sorority brings in new members at various times of the year through a process called Membership Intake. All organizations governed by the National Pan- Hellenic Council have different requirements for membership. When organizations are looking to conduct Membership Intake, many of them will host an informational meeting in which the criteria for membership are explained. NPHC will host a general informational about all of its organizations for students who have questions or are unsure about the intake process.

Typically, a student must obtain a collegiate GPA of 2.5 or higher, community service experience, and involvement in clubs or community activities. Each NPHC organization has its own requirements set by their inter/national organization and UIS chapter.

Going Greek at 天美传媒 Springfield is an important decision for your student and one that you need to be comfortable with as well. Your student will be part of a self-governing community that provides a multitude of opportunities for both personal and professional development, all of which will help lead your student to a bright and successful future.

Tips for supporting your student during the recruitment/intake process:

Allow your student to make his/her own decision. Learn as much as you can about Greek life and the membership experience
Keep an open mind
Understand the University and State Laws about hazing
Talk to your student about the financial obligations and membership requirements
Just because you鈥檙e a Greek alumnus, doesn鈥檛 mean your student is interested in the opportunity
Keep the Greek Affairs Board contact information available.
