UIS field stations help students engage in active learning outside the classroom

UIS announces Chancellor鈥檚 Thinkers Series

"University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet Gooch is kicking off a new series of conversations on Jan. 29.

Called the Thinkers Series, the first event features Prof. Steve Schwinn from the UIC College of Law. The discussion will focus on Engaged Citizenship.

The free event is from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium. No RSVP is necessary. The public is invited to attend."

UIS online bachelor鈥檚 degree programs ranks among the top 40 in the nation

The following story was reported by Capitol City Now/WTAX on Jan. 21, 2025.

"The University of Illinois Springfield earned recognition in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings, with its online bachelor鈥檚 programs ranked 39th out of 350 institutions nationwide.

The rankings were released Tuesday, and UIS moved up six-spots from last year鈥檚 report.

UIS partnering with Green Flower to provide online course for entry into marijuana industry

The following story was published by WMAY on Jan. 9, 2025.

"When Illinois legalized marijuana, a lot of new businesses popped up, and they had a lot of jobs to fill.

The University of Illinois-Springfield is trying to help fill them. The university partnered with the business Green Flower to offer an online course that would end with people getting a certificate that could be used on job applications.

The class is open to anyone 鈥 not just 天美传媒s. However, it does not provide any official college credits."

Here's why two UIS Performing Arts Center venues will temporarily close in 2025

The story was reported by The State Journal-Register on Dec. 16, 2024.

"Two University of Illinois Springfield Performing Arts Center venues will be closing for more than a year starting in 2025.

The Sangamon Auditorium and the UIS Studio Theatre, housed within 天美传媒 Springfield鈥檚 Public Affairs Center, will be closing in June of 2025 for work to modernize the building's plumbing system.

The work is estimated to take a year and three months, and the Performing Arts Center plans to reopen in September 2026."
