IT infrastructure acts as the foundation for all our technology operations. Having a robust infrastructure allows us to enable core functions, boost productivity and efficiency, ensure data security and compliance, support innovation and growth, and provide a competitive edge.

With campus and system-level financial support, ITS is implementing a campus-wide infrastructure refresh as part of our efforts to improve Wi-Fi performance. This is a multi-phase project; the timeline for each building is listed below with an expected projected completion date of August 2025.

Please note that the installations in Housing are coordinated with Residence Life staff and may be adjusted to provide minimal impact on students living on campus.

If you have any issues with Wi-Fi or Internet access, please reach out to ITS Client Services at techsupport@uis.edu or 217/206-6000.

Connecting Laptops, Tablets, and Phones:

During the transition for each building, laptops, tablets, and phones should automatically switch to the new Wi-Fi after a possible brief interruption in service. Gaming consoles and smart devices will need to be manually connected to a new Wi-Fi network (see instructions below).

Connecting Gaming Consoles, Smart Devices/TVs, and other Internet of Things (IoT):

For all devices, regardless of location, you should first try to connect to UISWifi. If your device does not connect to UISWifi, follow the steps below:

Open the PreAuth Login Page (not on the device you are trying to connect)
Login in with your NetID and Password
Choose Pre Shared Keys (New WiFi) from the menu on the left. On a mobile device, tap the menu button in the upper left corner and select Pre Shared Keys (New WiFi).
Once you have created your IPSK, you will connect your device(s) to the network named UISPreauth and enter the passphrase.
Please note that while your passphrase may be used for multiple devices you own, you may not share your passphrase with other users.

Note: Pre Shared Keys are set to expire annually on May 31st. Starting June 1 of every year you must create a new Pre Shared Key.

Connecting to UISGuest

Connecting to UISGuest (intended for visitors who do not have NetIDs) will require users to enter an SMS-enabled phone number. A verification code will be sent to that phone number and must be entered to successfully connect to UISGuest.

Generative AI at UIS

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how we approach teaching, learning, research, and administrative tasks at ��ý Springfield. Our mission is to keep the UIS community informed about the latest AI tools, training, and resources while ensuring that the technology is used safely and ethically.

Canvas AI

Canvas AI enhances teaching efficiency with Discussion Summaries for key insights, Smart Search for context-aware results, and Harmonize Rubrics for streamlined grading rubric creation.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot enhances productivity with AI-powered tools in Outlook, Teams, and Office apps, ensuring secure use for non-public university data, and is available to Faculty and Staff via the WebStore.

LinkedIn Learning

We offer LinkedIn Learning resources, including AI-driven career coaching and learning paths, to support faculty, staff, and students in their professional growth.

Adobe

Adobe Express and Adobe Firefly offer generative AI tools for creative projects, accessible to faculty, staff, and students with Creative Cloud licenses, but not for sensitive or high-risk data.

DeltaAI

Explore or Discover request via ACCESS, with larger requests requiring justification, and consulting support available - contact Kara McElwrath at kmcel2@uis.edu for more information.

AI Workshops

We understand that making resources available addresses only one piece of this puzzle. Creating awareness of such tools and providing training are equally important. CFE and COLRS will be offering customized workshops designed for the integration of Generative AI applications in educational settings. These workshops will emphasize hands-on experiences, concentrating on the practical implementation of Generative AI within a college or department, and focus on utilizing Generative AI to enhance communication, foster student engagement, design lessons, and generate content effectively. The AI Steering Committee

The AI Steering Committee comprises faculty and staff representing all areas of campus. The group is broken up into special interest groups focusing on disciplines of their expertise: teaching & learning, research, community engagement, and ethics and policy. Each group will work collaboratively to develop principles and strategic goals in service of university-wide conversations about the role of AI at UIS and the needs associated with supporting our students, faculty and staff.
