Stair climbers commemorated 9/11 in a literal way Saturday. 

The climbers,聽among them those too young to remember first-hand the Sept. 11, 2001聽terrorist attacks聽at the World Trade Center in New York, The Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a plane that crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, made their way up flights of stairs at the聽Crowne Plaza聽hotel聽to mark聽the revered day and to honor the first responders who climbed the steps of the World Trade Center that morning to rescue the injured.

The University of Illinois Springfield Department of Campus Recreation will host a 9/11 memorial stair climb聽at Crowne Plaza Springfield to mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The University of Illinois Springfield Department of Campus Recreation will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb from 10 a.m. 鈥� 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at the Crowne Plaza Springfield, located at 3000 S. Dirksen Pkwy., to mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
