The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present 鈥淎 Public Commons,鈥� a project building on UIS' history of being an institution focused on openness, innovation and adaptability. The project recreates 鈥渢he pit,鈥� a popular 1970s Sangamon State University (now UIS) classroom known for its lack of desks and chairs.

The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present 鈥淕emstones,鈥� a group exhibition that features an accomplished roster of local, regional and national artists that have also served as donors to the gallery. The exhibition will open with a free public reception from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, and will run through Thursday, July 27.

WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield and the Springfield Art Association present 鈥淜rzysztof Wodiczko: The Art of Un-War,鈥� a film screening and Q&A with Krzysztof Wodiczko and award-winning filmmaker and artist Maria Niro. The film documentary chronicles the life and political work of Wodiczko, an internationally acclaimed artist. This event is free and open to the public.

The is pleased to present 鈥淚n the Shadow,鈥� an installation of ceramic works by Decatur-based artist Jennifer Holt. The exhibition will open on Monday, March 6, and run through Thursday, April 13. A reception will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at the gallery.
