UIS Center for Lincoln Studies Director Jacob Friefeld鈥檚 book earns the Caroline Bancroft History Prize

Jacob Friefeld, director of the Center for Lincoln Studies at the University of Illinois Springfield, has received the Caroline Bancroft History Prize from the Denver Public Library for 鈥淭he First Migrants,鈥 a book he co-authored with Richard Edwards. Published by Bison Books, the book examines the migration of Black homesteaders to the Great Plains from 1877 to 1920.

UIS to hold virtual grand opening for the new Center for Lincoln Studies

On President Abraham Lincoln鈥檚 212th birthday, the University of Illinois Springfield will hold a virtual grand opening for the new Center for Lincoln Studies at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12 via Zoom. The Center will be a national base for scholarship, teaching and public history about Lincoln's life, leadership and legacy.

Peck named Wepner Distinguished Professor

Lincoln scholar Graham Peck has been named the Wepner Distinguished Professor of Lincoln Studies at 天美传媒 Springfield.

A virtual Ceremony of Investiture honoring Peck was held on Thursday, Sept. 24 where he received a medallion that symbolizes his position as a distinguished professor. Investitures are a special celebration of academic excellence. At UIS, when a professor is chosen to be an endowed chair or distinguished professor, an investiture takes place.
